Another Year: A Short History Of Almost Something

Hi tumblr. this is one of those yearly audits that I am so wont. I haven’t been posting very much save for the occasional audio and mindless reblogs of things cute and orgasmic (food). But now, i feel like blogging. So here goes my rusty stream of consciousness.

I did a lot in 2011. At one point, got a little too slutty (in mind more than action) for my own good. At another, too reclusive and sunken and shrivelled into myself. I grew up some. But let’s not go there; tracing all the ins and outs of the past year would be too tedious and boring, even for me.

I remember posting a list of “gap year goals” after graduation last April/May. I can’t seem to find the post so I’ll list those I remember.

Goals for 2011 in broad strokes: to read more, write more, learn a new language, travel, and work (and save). On these fronts, I’ve read about 6 books a month, got to travel to 5 places, worked 8 months in an NGO that was at times testing of my person and my abilities but ultimately made me less of a coward in the office/public sphere.

That leaves two things I haven’t really done to satisfaction: writing and learning a new language.

Most of my drafts are more vignettes of various emotions than actual, organised plot. So much to work on. I’m looking at 28 text files of raw material, a good deal of which I think is utter crap or disjointed and crude. Loard help me. I just want to create and finish something that I can be proud of.

As for a new language, I have finally signed up for German class from Jan to March. I am now an excites. “Enough teutonic punnery!” Thanks Community! I’ve been teetering between Deutsch and Japanese for far too long.

Goals for the remaining gap year in 2012:

  • Read, chigga! More non-fiction this time.
  • Write — and finish it.
  • Travel: I have somewhat sketchy plans to go on a road trip from L.A. to Boston sometime in April, making pit stops in a bunch of states in between, for sure Indiana to see Eva and Chicago for my friend Sara.
  • Save monies to fund life and life goals.
  • Find new work for monies.
  • Work out, for I am creaky and weak.
  • Go to things. This is a big one as it involves putting myself in “social situations”.
  • At some point, I foresee August, my hair and scalp would be again primed for bleaching and coloring. I want turquoise this time.
